Challenge

Car owners often face significant delays and inconvenience when seeking vehicle repairs and maintenance due to long wait times and limited availability at traditional dealerships. This inefficiency results in wasted time and increased frustration for individuals needing timely and reliable automotive services.

Solution

Create a transparent approach to car maintenance by facilitating stress-free scheduling and informative status reports that keep the customer included. The result is trust and honesty between mechanics and clients. Mechanics can communicate with clients in a quick, time-efficient manner, and clients will never feel left in the dark.

Key takeaways

  • User Feedback is Crucial. Iterating based on user input helped improve design simplicity and overall usability.

  • Flexibility Leads to Better Solutions. Pivoting to a mobile mechanic app allowed the team to better align with user needs.

  • Earlier Testing Improves Outcomes. Involving a broader audience and testing wireframes sooner could have revealed key issues earlier.

How We Adapted

After getting our research back and analyzing where both of our user’s pain points were there was a full turn around. We decided to focus on a service that allowed the client to schedule a service from a mobile mechanic. It fixed communication, wait times and so many other issues!

Exploration

At this point the concept was there but we had to find a way to make the client feel like they could trust a random mechanic to do the job. We realized there had to be a stronger emphasis on the trust aspect of our service and incorporated a mandatory certification and a mechanic profile displaying it!

App Function Prioritization

Getting the client’s information right away so they can get paired with a mechanic that fits all their specific needs. We want it to be as simple and pain free as possible for both sides. We also wanted the client to know the progress/status of the repair. In regards to mechanic side we made a simple inbox style that allows them to take or decline offers.

We decided to really prioritize our client side of this project. They are the ones scheduling and had the most pain points so we prioritized their needs most. However we did not forget mechanics as we addressed their biggest issue which was communication.

  Brand Development

  • Building Trust: Building trust was our biggest branding challenge. No one wants a stranger under their hood or in their driveway without confidence in the service. The flow of the website and the tone of voice were designed to feel transparent, professional, and reassuring.

  What I Learned
h

  • Research is Unpredicable:Your first idea is often NOT the right one, while the real solution lies somewhere unexpected. Through research and open dialogue, I learned the importance of letting go of assumptions, listening to real users, and being willing to pivot the entire direction of a project to find what truly works.

  • Working as a Team: This was the first website I built as part of a team, and it taught me the value of collaboration beyond assigned roles. We each had our specialties, but we constantly supported one another.

  Reflections
h

  • Importance of User Testing: User testing was essential to this project. After working closely on the design for so long, it was easy to overlook gaps or assume things made sense. When seeing real users interact with the site revealing flaws we hadn’t noticed it reminded us that the most important goal, to make sure the product works intuitively for the people it's built for.
